If you’re looking for a gentle, well-mannered companion who’s equal parts sweet and soulful, Zorro may be the perfect match. This one-year-old pup is the June Shelter Star at Norfolk Animal Care Center, and thanks to Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center, his adoption fee is fully sponsored. That means his forever family can focus on love, not cost.

Zorro recently enjoyed a NACC Pack Adventure, where volunteers take adoptable dogs out for a day of fun and fresh air. His adventure buddy had nothing but praise:

“Zorro is a gentleman and loves meeting people. He takes treats very gently—even sat for three kids (ages 8–13) and accepted treats from each of them. He was interested in playing with every dog we came across and wagged his tail excitedly, though we didn’t do any formal introductions. He spent most of our walk with his nose to the ground, eager to explore, and while he’s not highly treat motivated, I think he’d be a great candidate for training once he gets some energy out.”

“He never barked or whined and was amazing in the car. We went to Mt. Trashmore, grabbed a pup cup from Starbucks, and made a stop at Battlefield Park in Chesapeake. He even rested his head on my shoulder while I drove—total lovebug. He’s incredibly mild-mannered and just wants to be everyone’s friend. Also, I swear he looks like Scooby.” 😊

Zorro knows basic commands like “sit,” walks well on a leash (especially once he’s had a little time to sniff around), and loves being out and about with his people. He’s the kind of dog who will make you smile on the daily.

Not Ready to Adopt Just Yet?

You can still make a life-changing impact! The shelter is currently full and in urgent need of foster homes for both dogs and kittens. Whether you’re ready to open your home long-term or just want to give a dog a break with a NACC Slumber Pack (a 72-hour foster sleepover), or a NACC Pack Adventure Day Trip…every bit of support helps.
