Meet Randy, a 7-month-old kitten currently available for adoption at Chesapeake Animal Services, who is hoping for a second chance after a difficult start.
Randy was surrendered by his owner after being taken out of state to be declawed — a procedure that is illegal in Virginia due to the pain and long-term harm it causes cats. After the surgery, Randy understandably struggled with using the litter box because his paws were painful and sensitive. Instead of being given time and support to heal, he was returned to the shelter for eliminating outside of the box.
Declawing can have serious, lifelong consequences for cats, including chronic pain, stress-related behavior issues, and balance problems. Randy’s experience is a reminder of just how impactful that decision can be. Thankfully, once he arrived at the shelter and was switched to a softer litter, Randy showed no issues using the litter box at all.
Despite everything he’s been through, Randy is sweet, social, and resilient. He enjoys attention, does well with kids and dogs, and is eager to meet the other cats at the shelter. He’s curious, friendly, and ready to start fresh in a home that understands his needs and is committed to his well-being.
To help Randy and other cats like him find loving homes, Chesapeake Animal Services is offering a special adoption promotion: adopt Randy and another cat at the same time and pay just one adoption fee.
Randy has already endured more than any kitten should. Now he’s simply looking for someone willing to give him the patience, compassion, and love he deserves.
