Shelter Pet Saturday is brought to you by PetSuites Newport News.
This week’s Pet of the Week is Gabby, a sweet Triton Cockatoo available for adoption through Nana and Papa’s Nest. Her favorite saying is “I love you, Gabby,” and she’s hoping to find someone special to love her again soon.
Gabby came to Nana and Papa’s with an injured beak that needs regular trimmings and ongoing attention to keep her comfortable and healthy. Because of this, she would do best with an adopter who understands birds or is willing to learn how to meet her special needs.
At just 13 years old, Gabby is still just a teenager. Cockatoos can live up to 50-70 years! Birds form incredibly deep bonds with their people, and Gabby is looking for a patient, loving home where she can feel safe and cherished again.
Nana and Papa’s Nest is a nonprofit rescue that has spent the last 10 years caring for parrots who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Right now, the rescue is caring for nearly 60 birds in need of homes and facing a major challenge of their own.
The lease on their current location on Route 460 in Wakefield is up, and the organization is urgently trying to raise funds for a permanent home.
The rescue currently has fundraisers set up through Facebook, GoFundMe, and Zeffy to help support their mission. Another important way to help is through adoption.
Many birds are available for same-day adoption. As long as you have your cage set up and everything ready at home, if you are chosen by one of these birds (Nana and Papa’s Nest always say the birds choose their owner), they are ready to go home with you the same day.
