Wednesday is one of the cheesiest and beefiest days of the year
Sept. 18 is National Cheeseburger Day and restaurants are celebrating the made-up food holiday with discounts and free burgers.
According to Ranker, a crowd-sourced voting platform, the top five burgers were: Five Guys burger, In-N-Out Double Double, Five Guys cheeseburger, Burger King Whopper and Wendy’s Baconator. The favorite burger topping was cheddar cheese.
The top three of the top five fast food chains ranked aren’t known for serving burgers. The top five chains are: Subway, Chick-fil-A, KFC, Wendy’s and Five Guys.
We’ve rounded up the burger bargains available Wednesday unless otherwise noted at participating locations. We’re also filling your appetite for deals with ongoing sign-up offers.
Cheeseburger Day deals and freebies
To be on the safe side, always check with your closest location before heading out. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant’s app or be signed up for emails.
Applebee’s: Get a Classic Burger or Classic Cheeseburger with endless fries for $6.99 Wednesday.
BurgerFi: Locations nationwide will be offering $1 cheeseburgers with the purchase of a cheeseburger Wednesday. Must mention the offer for in-store orders only.
Dairy Queen: The chain is celebrating Cheeseburger Day with its new two for $4 Super Snack deal, which includes mix and match snacks including choice of a cheeseburger, a small sundae, fries, pretzel sticks or chicken tenders.
Dog Haus: Order one of seven Haus Burger creations and get a second patty with cheese added Wednesday. Scan the Dog Haus app in-restaurant to redeem.
Farmer Boys: Starting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, mention the Cheeseburger Day deal to get one for $2 at participating locations.
Habit Burger Grill: Through Sept. 25, make a donation of $2 or more to No Kid Hungry and get a certificate for a free Charburger with cheese to redeem on a future visit.
Houlihan’s Restaurant + Bar: Get a $5 Houlihan’s Cheeseburger and fries all day Wednesday.
Hurricane Grill & Wings: Get a $5.99 cheeseburger or a $6.99 cheeseburger and fries special Wednesday.
Islands Restaurants: Get $5 off all burgers Wednesday.
MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes: With the rewards app, get a free cheeseburger Wednesday with purchase of fries and a drink or shake.
Ninety Nine Restaurant and Pub: Get a $5.99 cheeseburger Wednesday dine-in only with choice of cheese and fries.
O’Charley’s Restaurant and Bar: Add two free slices of bacon to a cheeseburger Wednesday with a coupon that will be posted on O’Charley’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Wednesday morning. Dine-in only.
Shari’s: New or existing Shari’s Rewards members get the plant-based Beyond Burger with or without cheddar cheese on a pretzel bun for $1 Wednesday, dine-in only and no other purchase is required. Join the loyalty program by texting PIE and your email address to 73757. If you prefer meat, Shari’s will offer a $5 a la carte beef burger on a pretzel bun Wednesday too. Fries for both burgers are extra.
Smashburger: Get a buy-one-get-one free deal on double classic Smashburgers Wednesday.
TGI Fridays: This Cheeseburger Day deal takes place every Tuesday for a limited time. Get $5 classic cheeseburgers with seasoned fries for dine-in and online orders.
Twin Peaks: Get a cheeseburger and fries for $6 Wednesday. Dine-in only, one offer per guest.
Wendy’s: Coupons in the Wendy’s app Wednesday include $2 off any Premium Combo, a free fry plus drink with a premium sandwich mobile order, free small Frosty with purchase of Premium Combo and get free six-piece Spicy Nuggets with a mobile order
More deals: Some smaller chains and locally owned businesses also will have deals Wednesday. One of the easiest ways to find specials is by checking social media accounts.
Ongoing sign-up deals, rewards
Most of these specials are ongoing offers and require signing up for email clubs or downloading and using smartphone apps. Participation varies by location.
Dairy Queen: Find deals including buy-one-get-one offers on the chain’s mobile app to use at participating locations. Limit one offer per person per visit. There’s a different app for Texas residents.
