TMZ Slammed For Reporting Kobe Bryant Death Before Families Knew

On Sunday, TMZ was the first media outlet to report that basketball legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in Los Angeles.

There was a swift backlash for the quick reporting, with some stating that families were not notified as news was breaking on the gossip site.

Los Angeles County Undersheriff Tim Murakami sent out a tweet Sunday evening, calling for personal notifications to be made before publishing:

While holding press conference, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva also said, “ It would be extremely disrespectful to understand that your loved one … perished and you learn about it from TMZ. That is just wholly inappropriate.”
