Harvey Weinstein Sentenced To 23 Years In Prison

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison following his conviction of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape.

The disgraced movie mogul could’ve been sentenced to 29 years by the judge, which prosecutors had asked for. Weinstein’s attorneys had argued for only five years behind bars.

Back In February, they jury in Weinstein’s case acquitted Weinstein for three more charges including the most severe charge, predatory sexual assault. That charge would’ve carried a sentence of 10 years to life in prison.

Porsecutors asked for the maximum sentence for Weinstein. Before the hearing, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office argued in a court filing that his sentence should reflect “the seriousness of defendant’s offenses” and that he led “lifetime of abuse towards others, sexual and otherwise.”
