Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s Blood To Be Used to Help Develop Coronavirus Vaccine

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s blood will be used for science! The couple’s blood will be used to help create a vaccine for the coronavirus.

Hanks and Wilson were the one of the first high-profile cases of the coronavirus, falling ill on a trip to Australia while Hanks was participating in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

After revealing their diagnosis, the remained in Australia quarantined and made a full recovery before returning to Los Angeles.

Once they returned, they enrolled in a medical study to determine if their antibodies would be useful for scientists to help develop a vaccine and Hanks revealed on NPR’s podcast “ Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!” that he and Wilson “carry the antibodies”.

“We have not only been approached; we have said, do you want our blood? Can we give plasma? And, in fact, we will be giving it now to the places that hope to work on what I would like to call the Hank-ccine.”
