Animal Shelters in Virginia Rescue 130 Pets from Flood-Prone Areas of the Gulf Coast Ahead of Hurricane Laura

130 pets were rescued from flood-prone areas of Texas ahead of Hurricane Laura and relocated to six different animal shelters across Virginia.

The Petco Foundation funded the flight to transport dogs and cats to Virginia in partnership with Wings of Rescue and GreaterGood.org.

Richmond SPCA shared an update saying:

Yesterday, our team picked up 21 cats and 10 dogs after they were flown into #RVA and out of the path of #HurricaneLaura. It was a long day of travel for these pets, and tons of coordination took place here over the last 24 hours to ready space at our humane center. Now, it’s an overwhelming feeling of relief to know that they’re all out of harm’s way.
These emergency rescues are incredibly resource intensive, yet also so very worthwhile. You only have to look at these grateful fuzzy faces to be assured of that.
