Amy and her boyfriend are about to move in together. Amy makes significantly more than her boyfriend and pretty much picked out the place for that reason. She wants to pay more in rent than her boyfriend so that he can save money. Understandably, the boyfriend takes issue with this because it makes him feel less than. Amy wanted to ask us and our listeners how they would go about this situation. The prevailing sentiment is that she needs to let him pay his half if he can afford it. Some suggestions said that she can set aside that extra portion of money each month that she WOULD’VE paid. Save that money for emergency situations that inevitably come up in life. The interesting thing to note here is the established gender roles. If roles were reversed, we’re fairly sure that the boyfriend would be paying more.
Best of luck to you Amy!
