Nomadland and The Crown were among the big winners at Sunday’s 78th annual Golden Globe Awards Sunday.
Nomadland, starring Frances McDormand, was named best motion picture drama, and its director, Chloé Zhao, became only the second woman to win a best director prize, following Barbra Streisand in 1983 for Yentl.
The Crown took home best TV drama, while Schitt’s Creek walked away with best TV comedy.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which votes on the awards, has come under fire after for having no Black members. The organization addressed the issue during the broadcast. Former President Meher Tatna said, “We must also ensure everyone from all underrepresented communities gets a seat at our table, and we are going to make that happen.”
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the event on opposite ends of the country, with Tina at the Rainbow Room in New York City while Amy was in L.A. at the Beverly Hilton.
The Best Moments of the show:
Chadwick Boseman’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted his Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. “He would thank God. He would thank his parents. He would thank his ancestors for their guidance and their sacrifices,” she said. “He would say something beautiful, something inspiring, something that would amplify that little voice inside of all of us that tells us you can that tells you to keep going that calls you back to what you are meant to be doing at this moment in history.”

Just before the show cut to commercials, the cameras would show stars chatting over zoom but with people talking over each other and some mics muted, it was hard to watch.
