Queen Elizabeth and her family released a statement on Tuesday saying that they were saddened to learn of the experiences of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” Buckingham Palace said in the statement.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much-loved family members.”

Meghan and Harry discussed their experiences with Oprah Winfrey in an interview watched by more than 17 million viewers.

Meghan revealed in during the two-hour special that media bullying prompted her to consider suicide. She says she approached the palace for support but received none. “It was all happening just because I was breathing,” Meghan said of the media onslaught. “I just didn’t want to be alive any more. That was a clear, real, frightening and constant thought.”

Meghan and Harry also said that an unnamed member of the royal family had expressed concern over how dark their son’s skin color might be when he was born. Although they would not reveal the family member’s names, Oprah said that Harry made it known it was not Queen Elizabeth or Prince Phillip.
