Ellen DeGeneres to End Daytime Talk Show After 19 Seasons

Ellen DeGeneres has announced she is ending her talk show after 19-seasons.

The comedian and host informed her staff yesterday that she will wrap the show at the end of the 2021-2022 season and told The Hollywood Reporter, “When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.”

“I just feel like there’s something more I could be doing.” she continued. “I care about the environment. I care about animals. I care about design and furniture … So, definitely, people have been saying, “Why don’t we just try to go a little longer?” But 19 years is a long time to do anything.”

She adds that her decision to end the show was made a long time ago and before claims were made about the alleged toxic work environment behind the scenes. She says she had initially wanted to stop after season 16 but was urged by affiliates to keep going.

Ellen said, “if I was quitting the show because of that, I wouldn’t have come back this season.”
