William Shatner Flies to Space, Becoming the Oldest Person to Ever Leave Earth: ‘Life-Changing’

William Shatner finally took a real star trek.

The 90-year-old actor, best known for his role as Captain Kirk in “Star Trek,” became the oldest person to ever leave the earth on Wednesday.

Shatner and three other crew members — Audrey Powers, Blue Origin’s vice president of mission and flight operations, and two paying customers, Glen de Vries and Chris Boshuizen — rode Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket and capsule to the edge of space.

The journey lasted only about 10 minutes, traveling about 62 miles above sea level at three times the speed of sound, or 2,300 miles per hour. The four passengers experienced about four minutes of weightlessness.

“That was unlike anything they described,” Shatner said as the capsule descended to Earth. “That’s unlike anything I’ve ever [experienced],” he added.
