Adele Has Hilarious Reaction to Competing With Ed Sheeran’s New Album: ‘He Can Panic!’

Two of this year’s post highly anticipated pop albums are coming out relatively close to each other.

Ed Sheeran’s upcoming album, =, is set for release on Oct. 29 and Adele’s album, 30, will drop on Nov. 19.

During a recent interview on the U.K.’s Heart Radio show Heart Breakfast this week, co-host Jamie Theakston mentioned the closeness of the two releases to Adele.

“Ed Sheeran’s got an album coming out as well on the same time,” she said to which Adele  replied, “On the 19th?” and Jamie responded, “Well, not the 19th. Don’t panic.”

Adele then said, “Oh, I ain’t panicking,” and let out a big laugh before joking, “He can panic!”

She then added, “I love Ed, I love Ed, and I really love his wife, Cherry.”

In early 2017, Ed called Adele “the only person I need to sell more records than.”

“I’m not in competition [creatively] because we all sit in our own lanes,” he said at the time, “but once the creative product is out there is a race to the finish line.”

Billboard reports that he explained his comments further in an NBC interview saying, “I feel like me saying this, a lot of people were like, ‘That’s such an arrogant thing to say.’ I think you need to choose someone that’s at the top of their game. Like, I probably won’t sell 20 million records. And I probably won’t ever be as big as Adele. But if you don’t aim for the top of the mountain, how are you ever gonna get halfway?”

In other news, Adele will celebrate her album release with a two-hour prime time special on CBS, Adele One Night Only.

The show is set to air on Nov. 14 on CBS at 8:30pm.  It will be filmed in Los Angeles and include performances of her biggest hits as well as several never-before-heard new songs according to a press release.
