Legendary Actor Sidney Poitier Has Died at the Age of 94


Legendary actor Sidney Poiter has passed away at the age of 94.

Bahamian news outlets reported the news on Friday, citing the country’s minister of foreign affairs. No cause of death has been reported yet.

The star of “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner” and “Lilies of the Field,” for which he won Best Actor, was a trailblazer who became the first Black man to win an international film award at the Venice Film Festival in 1957; the first to be nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards in 1958; and, the first to win it for “Lilies of the Field.”

Poiter would have celebrated his 95th birthday on February 20.
