Olivia Rodrigo on ‘Sour” Breakup: “A Big Part of Forgiving Another Person…is Forgiving Yourself Too”

Olivia Rodrigo appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show Thursday to talk about her new film Driving Home 2 U (A Sour Film).

On the show, Barrymore asked about her debut album “Sour” and the breakup that inspired it.  Barrymore told Rodrigo that her song “Favorite Crime” moved her to tears and Olivia admitted to partial responsibility for the failed relationship.

“I just remember going through that awful heartbreak and feeling so responsible for it too in a way.” she said. “Like, you can blame someone else and be like, ‘Oh I hate that you did that to me.’ But when you really think about it, you put yourself in a position to be hurt and nobody’s perfect, and you must have done things wrong in that relationship too.”

“I think that’s a big part of forgiving another person in a breakup, is forgiving yourself too,” she added.

Driving Home 2 U (A Sour Film) is streaming now on Disney +
