National Volunteer Week: Local Organizations Seek Help in Hampton Roads
It’s National Volunteer Week, (April 17 through April 23), and organizations across the country are celebrating the community members that volunteer their time and give back.

The Norfolk Animal Care & Adoption Center (NACC) is actively recruiting volunteers to show their love for animals by donating their time. Enrich the lives of adoptable pets and people every day. Volunteer now!
Benefits of Volunteering: For many animals, the next chapter in their life is a direct result of the contributions of our volunteers. Volunteering is not only rewarding, it’s a great way of giving back to the animals who give so much to us. This also includes:

YWCA South Hampton Roads has been on the front lines of the biggest issues of the day for over 100 years, with our focus on eliminating racism and empowering women. As the largest domestic violence service provider in South Hampton Roads, we offer diverse volunteer, intern, and outreach opportunities within the community promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
Non-Technical Volunteers:
Non-Technical volunteers with YWCA of South Hampton Roads are not required to go through specialized training prior to service and will not have client interaction.

Trained Volunteers:
After an initial interview, volunteers will attend our 6-hour Onboarding Training as well as our 24.5-hour Advanced Training series prior to service. Trained Volunteers are subject to background checks and have direct client interaction.
Senior Services provide services for all adults aged 60 and older and individuals with disabilities, and offer support for caregivers who reside in the cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach, as well as Isle of Wight and Southampton counties.
Volunteering with Senior Services is a great way to help others in need, gain new skills, and build meaningful relationships. They are seeking meal delivery drivers, senior companions and more. Click here for more.
Keep Norfolk Beautiful works to lead our community to reduce litter, recycle right, and beautify Norfolk through education and volunteerism. These efforts help support clean, safe, and resilient neighborhoods
Providing safe haven, counseling, outreach, and mentoring services, 24 hours per day without charge, to assist youth in crisis throughout Hampton Roads and beyond, with the goal of reuniting families.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for volunteers only for the following:
Conduct donation drives collecting non-perishable foods, cleaning supplies, and other items that we list on our Donate Page
Facilitate arts & crafts, recreational activities, or holiday celebrations
We are looking for Mentors, age 20 and older; to be a positive influence in a child’s life, by volunteering at least four hours per month for one year. Children Of Prisoners (MCP)
We are also seeking children who need this vital program. If you know of a child or are a child aged 4-18 who could benefit from this program who has an incarcerated parent and would like to be matched with a mentor, contact us!
