Chesapeake Police Warn Residents About Phone Scam

The Chesapeake Police Department is warning residents after receiving several reported calls to the non-emergency number about outstanding warrants and court subpoenas.

Callers are informed they have an outstanding warrant or subpoena and are then instructed to call a different number.

Police say this is a scam.

According to WAVY-TV 10,  the police department does not call people directly about those things nor direct people to another phone number or website link. In addition, officers will not ask for money to avoid arrest or punishment.
