American Idol held its first-ever ‘Judge’s Song Contest’ on Monday (April 25th).
All three judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, chose a song for each of the remaining 11 contestants. The judge who picked the song each contestant chose earned a point and at the end of the night, the judges with the most points got to save one of the bottom two contestants.
One of the contestants, Noah Thompson, performed John Mayer’s “Heartbreak Warfare” and guessed that Perry was the judge who chose it. Wrong.
Perry, who previously dated Mayer, replied, “Noah, I feel like you should maybe Wikipedia me. I picked John Denver.”
After Luke Bryan admitted that he was the one who chose the John Mayer song, Katy jokingly hid under the desk asking, “Who’s going to pay for my extra hour of therapy?”
Perry and Mayer began dating in the summer of 2012 and dated on and off before ultimately ending the relationship in 2015.

Katy later gave her ex props calling him a “great artist” and said “Heartbreak Warfare” was a “great song.”
