Women Can Fly Event Offers Free Introductory Flights in Hampton Roads

The field of piloting has long been a male-dominated field. According to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Aeronautical Center data, just 7% of the 103,879 commercial pilots were women as of 2020.

The organization “Women Can Fly” is aiming to change that. The volunteer-run organization offers hands-on experiences to demonstrate ‘the sheer fun of flight and encourages participants to fly recreationally, become a private pilot, or pursue a career in aviation.

“Women Can Fly” will host two complimentary flight opportunities in Hampton Roads this spring and summer.  The first event, is scheduled for this Saturday (June 11th) in Hampton.  Online bookings are currently closed but interested participants can still show up at the event and sign up on the waiting list for a flight.

A  second event will take place on September 10th at the Military Aviation Museum. The minimum age for a flight is eight (8). Flights will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.  Get more details here.
