Kelly Clarkson Opens Up About the “Hardest Thing to Navigate” After “Huge” Divorce

Kelly Clarkson’s divorce from Brandon Blackstock was finalized in March and Kelly opened up writing new music while dealing with the effects of the divorce.

“It’s been the hardest thing to navigate,” she shared on the June 29 episode of The Global Chart Show with Brooke Reese. “I’ve never had this difficult of a project. It’s one of those things where I’m a human and I’m going through something huge. Obviously, everybody knows, like, a big, huge divorce I went through and it’s been like, two years and not easy with kids.”

The couple shares two children, River, 8, and Remington, 6, and Kelly added, “It’s just a whole different dynamic.”

“I mean I have to be completely honest,” she continued, “but that’s a hard thing to navigate, right? Because it’s in the public eye, and there’s other people involved.”

Kelly said that she used songwriting to help her get through it. “I’ve always had a hard time communicating and literally that’s how I became a writer at the age of 10, because my mom was like, ‘You need to quit bottling it up. And then you explode. You need to communicate better,'” she said. “And so I literally started writing to help me do that.”

The singer and talk show also said that a new album is on the way, “I’m just navigating what I’m comfortable with releasing”
