“I joined the Navy to support our nation’s efforts of defending freedoms,” said Brown.

“I also joined to support my education and athletic goals, such as my degree in mechanical engineering from Old Dominion University. Now, I do judo on the all-Navy sports team.” Today, Brown relies upon skills and values learned while attending Old Dominion University to succeed in the military.

“Studying engineering was very demanding,” said Brown. “I had to make sure I had a consistent study plan and kept on track. For engineering you learn how to problem solve. That has translated to my Navy service by helping me develop my analytical abilities. It just gives you confidence when confronted with different problems, even outside of engineering because you can apply the same principles.”
