Katie Couric revealed in an essay she published today on her website that she is battling breast cancer.
The veteran journalist, who lost both her first husband and sister to cancer, says she received her diagnosis in June after having a mammogram. She writes, “I felt sick and the room started to spin,” adding, “I was in the middle of an open office, so I walked to a corner and spoke quietly, my mouth unable to keep up with the questions swirling in my head.”
Since her diagnosis, Couric had undergone a lumpectomy and radiation treatments. She says she will continue to chronicle her experiences as she navigates her battle with the disease and will share “the latest diagnostic tools, treatments, and prevention strategies” in the hopes of saving other lives.
