4th of July in Hampton Roads: 2024 Fireworks and Festival Guide


The 4th of July weekend is approaching!  Make your plans now to enjoy firework displays and Independence Day celebrations throughout Hampton Roads.


CHESAPEAKE:

Thursday, July 4th: Independence Day Celebration at the Great Bridge Battlefield Museum. Come celebrate America’s independence with crafts, Brethren of the Coast Maritime History displays, The Youth Virginia Regiment encampment, and the reading of The Declaration of Independence.

Wednesday, July 3rd: Celebrate Freedom.  Celebrate America’s Birthday at Chesapeake City Park with band concerts providing stirring patriotic sounds. Following the concerts, fireworks by Pyrotecnico will illuminate the dark sky after sunset. The event is free to the public. $5 on-site Parking Fee. Bring your own chairs or blanket. (Tents, feather flags, and oversized umbrellas are not permitted!) A variety of food trucks will be available. Enjoy music, activities, and giveaways while they last!

Thursday, July 4th: Annual South Norfolk Parade & Picnic in the ParkThe South Norfolk Civic League and the Chesapeake Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department will present this annual patriotic event in South Norfolk at Lakeside Park.The event is free to the public although some activities may require a small fee. For more details, see the South Norfolk Civic League website.


HAMPTON:

Saturday, June 29th: Langley Speedway will host the Fireworks & VA Sprint Car Series


ISLE OF WIGHT:

Wednesday, July 3rd: Join Isle of Wight County Parks & Recreation for the Annual Independence Day Celebration with concerts, food, and fireworks at the fairgrounds! Fireworks presented by Francisco Displays. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. Come jam out with Chase Payne at 7:30 p.m.


NORFOLK:

Friday, June 28th- Ocean View Park. Shore Thing Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks Display. Summer brings the return of the popular Friday after-work Ocean View event series.

Saturday, July 1st- Sunday, July 2nd: Celebrate America’s Independence with a Post-Game Special Fireworks Extravaganza after the Norfolk Tides game!

Thursday, July 4th: 39th Annual 4th of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks at Town Point Park, Downtown Norfolk Waterfront, Virginia from 5pm – 10pm. Firework Display at 9:30pm.  FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!  Learn more here. 

Watch fireworks and help the animals at Norfolk Animal Care Center by serving drinks at the Great American Picnic! Sign up to volunteer here (2-3 hour shifts available)


NEWPORT NEWS:

Thursday, July 4th: 4th of July – Stars in the Sky at Victory Landing Park.Light up the night in Newport News!  Celebrate Independence Day with great food, live music, festive entertainers, giveaways and a spectacular fireworks display above the James River. This year’s Stars in the Sky will feature musical performances from Good Shot Judy and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra. Gerome Meminger will also be conducting a live stage painting performance. More details to come! Fireworks Begin at 9PM Sharp! Admission and parking are free. Directions: Take I-64 to I-664S, take Exit 6 to 26th Street, turn left onto Huntington Avenue, and turn right onto 23rd Street. Free parking is available at the Newport News City Hall parking lot and designated non-restricted public parking spaces in the Downtown area. No pets, alcohol, bicycles, skateboards or radios are permitted inside the event area.


PORTSMOUTH:

Thursday, July 4th: Shaggin’ 4th of July Celebration. A Beach Music party on the 4th of July to show off your shag stepping. The mighty Saints of Soul Band play beach music from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a follow up performance by the Tidewater Concert Band playing patriotic music from 8:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Fireworks show at 9:30pm.


SMITHFIELD:

Tuesday, July 2nd:   Fireworks in Smithfield. The 2024 fireworks are scheduled for July 2 at 9:30 pm. The display will shoot off from Clontz Park in Downtown Smithfield with good viewing from the Smithfield Station and all along the river.


SUFFOLK:

Thursday, July 4th: Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular as the skies of Suffolk light up with a fireworks show. Enjoy food & drinks, bounce houses, games and fireworks. Hear live music by The Feenies. Music begins at 6pm, fireworks at 9pm. Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina, 110 E. Constance Road. Shuttles are available from First Baptist Church and Goodwin Courthouse. VIRGINIA BEACH:

Thursday, July 4th: Stars & Stripes Celebration. Head to the Virginia Beach oceanfront for a “star-spangled” salute to America this July 4! Live concerts in 17th, 24th, and 31st Street Parks culminate in a spectacular oceanfront fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 4th: Virginia Beach Parks and Recreations’ 4th of July Celebration at Mount Trashmore. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free; limited onsite parking is $20 (cash only). Food and drinks available for purchase. When parking lots at Mount Trashmore Park are full, Edwin Drive​ between Independence Boulevard and South Boulevard may close. Parking fees begin at noon. WILLIAMSBURG:

Thursday, July 4th: Lights of Freedom. . Enjoy patriotic festivities, including public readings of the Declaration of Independence, musical performances, and a dazzling fireworks display to cap the evening. Learn more here.
