The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Wednesday, September 11th, hosted by Megan Thee Stallion, who was also among the many performers. Others who took the stage included Sabrina Carpenter, Katy Perry, Chappell Roan, Eminem, Karol G, and Glorilla.
Taylor Swift took home seven awards, including the top award of the night for the third consecutive year. Swift won Video of the Year for “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. In her acceptance speech for Video of the Year, she thanked her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, saying, “When I’d finish a take, and I’d say ‘cut,’ and we’d be done with that take, I’d always just hear someone cheering, like ‘whoo,’ from across the studio. And that one person was my boyfriend, Travis. Everything this man touches turns to happiness, fun, and magic.”
Swift also took the opportunity to thank her fans for voting for her and urged them to vote in the upcoming presidential election. “If you are over 18, please register to vote for something else that’s very important coming up,” she encouraged.
In a poignant moment, Swift also honored the significance of the day, as the ceremony took place on September 11th. “Waking up this morning in New York on Sept. 11,” she said, “everyone we lost—that is the most important thing about today.”
