Many fans had cleared their schedules and booked hotels months in advance for the highly anticipated Something in the Water music festival, which was set to take place on October 12-13. However, with the recent postponement of the event, a major gap was left in the entertainment calendar. Fortunately, The Virginian Pilot reports local musicians have stepped in to fill that space with their own festival, ensuring the show goes on.
Waves: Mini Fest, a brand-new event designed to keep the energy alive. While details are still being ironed out, this festival promises to bring live performances to the Oceanfront.
Best of all, the performances are free and open to everyone, with shows scheduled at the 17th Street and 24th Street stages.
In addition to highlighting musical talents, Waves will collaborate with local businesses to host various events throughout the festival. Attendees are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #RipplesTurnToWaves.
Griffin also hinted that a yet-to-be-announced national act will perform on the 24th Street stage, adding even more excitement to the lineup.
BJ Griffin and Gabe Niles, the festival’s organizers, assure that Waves: Mini Fest will kick off on the evening of Friday, October 11, and continue through Sunday, October 13. Those who had already planned to visit Virginia Beach for SITW don’t need to change their plans—they can still enjoy a weekend of music and fun.
Griffin shared that after Virginia Beach native Pharrell Williams postponed SITW, the city approached him to help organize concerts at the 17th Street stage to maintain the excitement surrounding the event.
“They reached out to me to keep the vibe alive and offer something for the people who will still be here,” Griffin explained.
Niles, who had already been working on scheduling performances for the same weekend, partnered with Griffin to bring together local talent and create a festival experience for the community. Their slogan for the event is: “Ripples, they turn into waves,” reflecting the idea that local artists can make a global impact.
