The 2025 Emmy nominees were announced yesterday—and let’s just say, some fans (and stars) are feeling a little snubbed.
One of the biggest shocks? “Squid Game” walked away with zero nominations for its second season. After dominating the awards with six wins for Season 1, including Best Drama Actor, the Netflix phenomenon didn’t get a single nod this year. (Don’t worry—Season 3 will be eligible for next year’s Emmys.)
Another eyebrow-raiser? “The Handmaid’s Tale” snagged just one nomination, and that was for Cherry Jones’ guest role. Meanwhile, “Yellowjackets”, which scored 10 nominations over its first two seasons, was completely shut out for Season 3.
And no Emmy love for Patrick Schwarzenegger, despite his headline-making full-frontal scene in “The White Lotus.”
But it wasn’t all snubs — there were some exciting firsts and feel-good surprises:
-
Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard earned their first-ever Emmy nominations for acting, thanks to guest spots on Seth Rogen’s comedy, “The Studio.”
-
Harrison Ford, at 83, scored his first Emmy nod for his role in Apple TV’s “Shrinking.”
-
Kathy Bates, at 77, became the oldest nominee for Best Drama Actress for her role in “Matlock.”
-
And while Drake may be having a rough year, Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show got a big win with four nominations, including Outstanding Live Variety Special.
When it comes to total nominations, here are your heavy hitters:
-
“Severance” leads the pack with 27 nominations
-
“The Penguin” with 24
-
“The Studio” and “The White Lotus” with 23 each
-
“The Last of Us” rounds out the top five with 16
Catch all the winners—and maybe a few surprise moments—when the Emmys air Sunday, September 14th on CBS, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.
