Norfolk Named the Most Sleep-Deprived City in America


You aren’t the only one who’s sleep-deprived.  EVERYONE is.  Especially if you live in Norfolk, Virginia.

A research team used data from the Centers for Disease Control to look into the sleep habits of people in 100 major cities, and Norfolk, Virginia, was the most sleep-deprived city in America.

According to the data, Norfolk ranked high for short sleep duration and poor sleep quality.

The 10 most sleep-deprived are:

1.  Norfolk, Virginia

2.  New Orleans, Louisiana

3.  Detroit, Michigan

4.  Toledo, Ohio

5.  Cincinnati, Ohio

6.  Indianapolis, Indiana

7.  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

8.  Laredo, Texas

9.  Cleveland, Ohio.

10.  Memphis, Tennessee.

The 10 LEAST sleep-deprived are:

1.  Minneapolis, Minnesota

2.  Seattle, Washington.  (Not-so-sleepless in Seattle.)

3.  San Jose, California

4.  Madison, Wisconsin

5.  Boise, Idaho

6.  St. Paul, Minnesota

7.  Denver, Colorado

8.  Lincoln, Nebraska

9.  Oakland, California

10.  San Francisco, California.

Nearly all of the 10 most sleep-deprived cities are in the eastern half of the U.S., and Ohio has multiple cities in the Top 10.  California and Minnesota have multiple cities on the least sleep-deprived list.  So, how can you improve your sleep quality? According to the study, get regular exercise, reduce electronics before bed, try going to bed earlier, and ask your doctor about sleep aids.
